The Opportunity
The Systems Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, analyzing, and verifying complex systems, involving mechanical, electronic, firmware and software components of RAD Torque Systems products. The role requires a broad understanding of engineering principles and methodologies, with a focus on ensuring that all elements of a system function together as intended. This includes collaborating with cross-functional teams, analyzing system requirements, and solving problems related to systems design, integration, verification and traceability. The Responsibilities
System Analysis and Requirements Gathering:
Gather and analyze system requirements from stakeholders.
Translate requirements into technical specifications and designs.
Decompose system designs into subsystem solutions.
Assess system components and technologies for feasibility, risk, technological readiness, suitability, performance, scalability, reliability and security.
Create and document system and interface specifications.
System Implementation and Integration:
Implement, integrate and verify various systems and sub-system components.
Verify system components to ensure they work together effectively.
Troubleshoot system integration issues and provide solutions.
Optimize system performance.
Design, implement, integrate and verify selected subsystems.
System Verification and Validation:
Design and execute tests to verify and validate system functionality and performance.
Ensure that systems are compliant with relevant regulations, standards, and best practices.
Ensure that verification and validation provide traceability against system requirements.
Project Leadership, Documentation and Reporting:
Develop technical and logistical system development plans.
Work closely with a multidiscipline team including (mechanical, electronic, firmware, software, V&V, and project management).
Ensure cross-functional departments are aligned with project goals and timelines.
Identify potential issues and mitigation strategies to reduce risk.
Create detailed technical documentation throughout the system lifecycle, including requirements, design, analysis, FMEAs, and other technical reports.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
The Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or related fields.
P.Eng. certification preferred, or eligible and motivated to acquire P.Eng. registration.
10+ years of relevant product design experience.
Demonstrable system / multidiscipline approach to engineering design.
Firmware development experience is an asset.
Leadership experience is an asset.
