The Opportunity
The Controller is responsible for executing and maintaining RAD’s full‑cycle financial processes and for delivering timely, accurate, and compliant financial reporting. This role oversees the full accounting cycle, including general ledger, accounts receivable and payable, payroll, product costing, inventory valuation, variance analysis, and cash flow forecasting.
The Controller monitors financial and cost performance, identifies exceptions and emerging risks, and ensures material variances and inaccuracies are investigated, resolved, and clearly communicated. This role applies accounting policies and internal controls to maintain the integrity of financial data and ensures financial reporting complies with applicable accounting standards and statutory requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
The Responsibilities
Accounting Operations
- Execute and maintain full‑cycle accounting processes across multiple operating and holding companies, including general ledger, accounts receivable and payable, payroll, and inventory accounting.
- Manage the monthly close process, including preparation of reconciliations, schedules, and internal reports.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of all financial transactions and reconciliations.
- Maintain accurate product costing, inventory valuation, and margin analysis to support reliable financial reporting.
- In coordination with the Data Manager, oversee annual physical inventory counts and related reconciliation and valuation processes.
- Oversee payroll processing, reconciliations, year‑end payroll reporting, and associated controls.
- Prepare annual budgets and forecasts in collaboration with, and as directed by, the Director.
- Apply, maintain, and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare and oversee timely monthly financial reporting for multiple operating and holding companies.
- Prepare variance analysis and supporting schedules to explain financial and operational performance.
- Prepare year‑end working papers and documentation for external accountants to support annual reviews and audits.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards (ASPE) and statutory reporting and filing requirements across jurisdictions.
- Maintain complete and accurate financial records in accordance with company policy and regulatory requirements.
Cash Management
- Prepare short‑term cash flow forecasts.
- Manage accounts receivable billing, collections, and credit processes to minimize risk and ensure compliance with company policies.
- Monitor banking activity and ensure bank and credit card reconciliations are completed in accordance with internal control requirements.
Analysis & Business Support
- Coordinate and support budgeting, forecasting, and variance reporting.
- Conduct regular reviews of cash position, budget performance, and month‑end financial results.
- Identify, assess, and escalate financial risks, control weaknesses, or compliance issues in a timely manner.
- Provide guidance and support to managers and cross‑functional departments as needed.
People Leadership
- Manage, coach, and develop accounting staff, including day‑to‑day oversight and performance management.
- Prepare, update, and deliver job descriptions and performance evaluations for direct reports.
- Develop short‑ and long‑term accounting staffing plans in collaboration with management.
The Qualifications- Post-Secondary degree in accounting, finance or a related business discipline.
- Professional accounting designation (CPA).
- 3+ years of experience in a Controller or senior financial management role.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, demonstrating increasing responsibility.
- Experience with cost accounting, inventory valuation, and product costing.
- Experience using Infor Visual or other similar ERP systems preferred.
- Experience applying Theory of Constraints (TOC) concepts in a manufacturing context considered an asset.
